Richmond University Medical Center
The leadership team at RUMC has a passion, commitment, and vision for the Staten Island community that is echoed in a master plan for the healthcare facility. Most recently, a significant accomplishment outlined in their vision is the completion of the Emergency Trauma Department. The new multi-story ED is 35,000 square feet as compared to the original ED, a 15,000 square foot facility built in 1978. Services are predicted to accommodate approximately 65,000 patients each year.
The RUMC master plan also included a self-sustaining on-site electricity plant designed to fuel the campus, which is especially critical during storms and natural disasters. The renovation was an exciting accomplishment, as the hospital had to maintain operations throughout the rebuild. The project progressed with an essential designation during the COVID-19 pandemic. This included additional safety and regulatory compliance per OSHA and the NYC Department of Buildings for safety compliance. Adco was responsible for all electrical work, including the installation of a new electrical distribution system, a high-end lighting fixture and lighting control package, fire alarm, smoke control, and nurse call systems.
The project design team included CannonDesign, Bohler Engineering, and Thornton Tomasetti. Adco was a trade partner to LF Driscoll, an industry-leading Construction Management firm with a highly accomplished track record working exclusively in healthcare construction.
